Welcome to our blog!

This site is maintained by Mr. Michael Adkins and Mr. John DeJak, two teachers of the Senior Capstone Seminar. It is our hope that our students and outside visitors who are curious about the class can come here and get a taste of our venture through the Catholic intellectual tradition.

Our goal is to touch the hearts, minds and souls of our students in order to develop in them what Fr. James Schall, S.J. has dubbed "a Catholic mind". A Catholic mind approaches the world with a clear perspective, informed by the Truth - the Eternal Logos. A Catholic mind is not satisfied by partisan politics and ideologies; a Catholic mind is able to see, as Bl. John Henry Newman said, the substance of things through the shadows.

Likewise, this course is the "capstone" or climax of the entire education offered at Saint Agnes School: "an integrated, liberal arts curriculum that prepares students for college, life and beyond. The curriculum underlines the unity of faith and reason and seeks to form students into confident, intelligent and faithful young adults. Rooted in the tradition of Catholic education, the curriculum is broken down into the divisions of Grammar (K-6), Logic (7-8) and Rhetoric (9-12) focusing on religion/theology, literature, history, philosophy, mathematics, science, fine arts and foreign language study. The educational model emphasizes the Virtues, the Catholic intellectual tradition and their origins in the Greco-Roman world" (from Our Mission Statement).
